Hostel improvements in February
On Monday 2nd February and Tuesday 3rd February we will be upgrading Shelter Jordan to make your stay with us even better. We advise you to consider booking at Shelter City instead, so that you are not troubled by the work that we are carrying out. Shelter Jordan remains open, but you should be aware of the following:
Café closed for a day
After breakfast (10:30) on Monday morning our café will be closed until Tuesday morning (08:00) while we renew the floor. This means that you will not be able to order any drinks or meals from us, or use the microwave or fridge to store or prepare your own food or drinks. We will make another small room available so that a few guests have somewhere warm to sit during the day and evening. And on Tuesday morning we will open the café as normal at 08:00 for breakfast.
Female bathrooms closed for 2 days
At 10:30 on Monday 2nd February the female bathrooms will be closed until 13:30 on Wednesday 4th February. During this time the male bathrooms can be used by everyone, both male and female.
Shelter Jordan hostel is in the Western part of Amsterdam's city centre, right in the middle of the quiet and picturesque Jordaan (Jordan) area. The Jordaan is famous for its beautiful canals, 17th century houses and trendy boutiques and makes the perfect place to stay if you don't want to be right in the busy centre of town. Anne Frank's house is just at the end of our street and Dam Square and Leidseplein are only a 10-15 minute walk away. There's a tram and bus stop just around the corner from the hostel taking you to the train station (8 minutes) or the rest of the city. The bus station just 400m away has direct buses to the airport. You can rent a bike from us to explore the city or beyond.
Great for female travellers
We have 2 separate floors, one for women only and one for men only, with bedrooms and bathrooms totally separated. So if you're a girl worried about bumping into strange men on the way to the shower then stay with us and relax! Half our beds are reserved for women only so that gives a great atmosphere in the hostels for both girls and guys.
Small enough to care
Most of the accommodation is in single-sex rooms with 4, 5, 6 or 8 beds giving you the privacy and comfort you desire - there are also two dormitories with 18 beds if you're looking for the cheapest option and want to meet other guests. There is one locker for each bed in the bedrooms. You need to bring your own padlock; or you can buy one from us. The bathrooms are all shared, with separate facilities for men and for women. With less than 100 beds the hostel is smaller than many in Amsterdam, creating an atmosphere where it's easy to feel at home and make friends. The courtyard garden is a great place to hang out when the sun's shining and you can buy drinks, snacks and meals in the café. We cook a home-made dinner each evening for our staff and you are very welcome to join us for just 5 euros. You'll also find games to play, books to read, tables where you can write your journal, comfy chairs where you can relax and chat to other guests and free WiFi access to keep in touch with home.
The guests as well as the staff come from all over the world and have a passion for travelling around Europe as well as exploring the hidden delights of Amsterdam. It's easy to make friends, learn from one another and swap travel-stories. Come and discover why Let's Go guide book described Shelter Jordan as "one of the very best".
